October is creeping in on us, and that means the MLB playoffs are happening soon! We will find out in no time who plays for the division crown, the division series, or a wild card spot. So far, we know of three teams that have secured their spot in the playoffs: the LA Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and Milwaukee Brewers.

The Giants and Dodgers will battle to see who wins the NL West, though both teams are guaranteed a spot. The Giants secured theirs after a 9-1 win against the Padres and the Dodgers secured theirs after an 8-4 win against the Diamondbacks. Now we just need to find out who is going to the division series and who is going to a wild-card elimination game.

The Milwaukee Brewers clinched a wild-card spot with their 6-4 win over the Cubs. Now, their magic number to win the NL central crown is three.

The National League playoffs

The number one seed will play the winner of the NL Wild Card game. This is between the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Giants have a 10-9 edge in the series and will play the San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies, and Arizona Diamondbacks to close the series.

Number two (NL Central) Milwaukee Brewers will play number three (NL East). The Milwaukee Brewers have already secured the spot at number two for the NL Central. The NL East race continues with the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. The Braves have a three-game lead in the division and the Phillies are on a losing streak.

The NL Wild Card Game: loser of the Giants vs Dodgers game vs the Cardinals, Reds, or Padres. St. Louis has had a difficult season to start out, but now are on a nine-game winning streak towards the playoffs. That puts them at a three-game lead against the Reds and the Padres are just behind the Reds. If the Cardinals can get a win over the Brewers, that might secure them this game.

The American League playoffs

The number one seed will play the winner of the AL Wild Card game. It is looking like the Tampa Bay Rays could be the winners of the AL Wild Card game, as they could potentially win the AL East.

The number two will play the number three. Depending on how the Chicago White Sox finish their season, they could be the AL Central winners, but they’ve been hot and cold lately. The Houston Astros could play for AL West in this game, as they have been playing well all season.

Then we have the AL Wild Card game. The Boston Red Sox are on a five-game winning streak right now and play their series against the New York Yankees in just a few days. That game could determine which team makes it to the AL Wild Card game. The Toronto Blue Jays are also contenders, so it all depends on how the end of the regular season pans out.
