“I’m in the best physical and mental shape of my career" - Ricky Rubio
Spanish basketball player Ricky Rubio, who will start the 2021-22 NBA season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, says he thinks this will be his best year yet.
Spanish NBA player Ricky Rubio was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers from the Minnesota Timberwolves in August. When speaking with the press on Media Day on Monday, he told reporters that he is feeling great. Thus, he feels confident that this will be his best year yet with his new NBA team.
Rubio confident in his abilities coming into the season
“Without a doubt, I feel really good and physically I think I’m following a plan to be in my best shape. Let’s hope to perform at the same level. I had a great moment and I don’t want it to end there,” said Rubio. He said that he has been training individually, but has yet to be able to train with the team. He expressed his excitement to start with the Cavaliers and is happy with how they have treated him from the start. “I’m happy to be in an organization that treats players so well,” he said. “I’m already looking forward to starting and knowing my role."
Rubio started playing professional basketball at a young age. He was just under 15 years old when he joined the Spanish ACB League. “I have been on all kinds of teams, but I think that a young person could lose himself if he doesn’t take the next step, which is the hardest,” Rubio said. “Mentally, it goes with experience. That's why being young is good and bad, because you're hungry, but you also make mistakes. You can learn from those mistakes fast or not fast enough.”
