Jacksonville Jaguars 21-24 Cincinnati Bengals summary: score, highlights, | NFL Week 4

Update:
Sep 30, 2021; Cincinnati, Ohio, USA; Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (9 )runs during the first quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Paul Brown Stadium.

Jaguars vs Bengals live

Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence were spotlighted all week leading up to Thursday night’s primetime game, but it was Evan McPherson who decided the Cincinnati Bengals 24-21 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Bengals came out flat in first half

It was a tale of two halves in Paul Brown Stadium. The Jaguars dominated the opening two quarters, as Lawrence and Jacksonville pieced together their best half of football all season.

After an early missed field goal from the Bengals, the Jaguars marched down the field and finished off an eight play 67 yard touchdown drive with a six yard James Robinson run to put the first points on the board.

The Bengals offense was nearly nonexistent in the first half. Joe Burrow could not move the ball in the air, and running back Joe Mixon was getting stuffed on the ground up until halftime.

Lawrence and Jags were in control at halftime

The Jags used the slow start to CIncinnati´s night to build a 14 point lead going into halftime after a Trevor Lawrence seven yard touchdown to cap off the 80 yard drive right before the halftime break.

Cincinnati went into the halftime break with just 114 yards of total offense, and 19 yards rushing. Despite their terrible start to the home teams night they only found themselves down by two possessions to start the third quarter.

Bengals score three TDs on first three possesions of second half

It took no time at all for Burrow and company to flip the script, and march down the field for their opening touchdown of the game.

Cincinnati looked like a completely different team from one half to the next. They came out and scored touchdowns on their first three possesions of the second half.

It took just four plays to cover the 70 yards for the first Bengals touchdown which sparked a sense of hope around the stadium in the Queen City. Burrow hit Uzomah on a 22 yard connection a minute and a half into the second half.

The vamped up offense had a trickle down effect to the defense. The Bengals defense, who came into the game as one of the stingiest sides over the first three weeks of the season, was shredded by the Jags rookie quarterback in the first half.

Joe Mixon came to life in the third quarter, after rushing for just 14 yards in the first half. He tied the game up at 14 with a one yard touchdown with five minutes to go in the third quarter.

McPherson with the walk of field goal

Both teams exchanged touchdowns in the fourth quarter before Burrow led the Bengals on a 73 yard drive to give Evan McPherson a chance to win the game with a last second field goal.

McPherson drilled the 35 yard field goal and secured the comeback win for the Bengals who are now just a win away from their win total of all of last season.

The Jags remain winless, while the Bengals ensured they will go into Week 5 with at least a tie at the top of the AFC North Division.

Sea of orange and a lot of noise in the Paul Brown Stadium (named after the Bengals founder) as we get underway!

Joe Buck and Troy Aikman are on the mic and the broadcast has begun on NFL Network.

We are just minutes away from kickoff in Cincinnati.

Trevor Lawrence is seeking his first win in his young NFL career. He has thrown 5 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

Accoriding to Bet365.com the Bengals are a 7.5 favorite over the Jaguars, with the Over/Under set at 46.

The Bengals have already won half as many games as they did in all of last season. With a healthy Burrow and a stingy defense, they look more than likely to surpass their four wins of last year.

Joe Burrow has not put up jaw dropping stats this season, but he is playing the role of game manager to a tee. He is efficient with his completion percentage, and lets his running backs and defense carry the brunt of the load

Trevor Lawrence has already lost more games in the NFL than he did in his 36 game college career.

Joe Burrow warming that arm up. Prediction: throwing 2 TDs and a howler of an interception.

Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET from Cincinnati, Ohio. The Bengals are 2-1 on the year while the Jags are still looking for their first win of the year.

Hello everyone and welcome to Paul Brown Stadium for tonight´s Thursday Night matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Thursday Night Football will showcase two of the latest first overall draft picks selected in the last two years, as Joe Burrow and the Bengals host Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars. AS English will be keeping you up to the minute with live coverage, updates, stats and scores of the opening game of Week 4 from Paul Brown Stadium.

Cincy's tale of the tape

All is well in Cincinnati as the Bengas are above .500 through the first three games of the season. After splitting the opening two games which were both decided by three points, the Bengals got a big divisional win over the Steelers in Pittsburgh last week.

The Bengal defense, which has looked stout through the opening weeks of the season gave up just one touchdown in the 24-10 win. Joe Burrow didn’t have to do much, but he made the most of the little he was asked to do. The former LSU Tiger went 14/18 for 172 yards and three touchdowns.

Burrow’s 14 completions went were distributed to seven different receivers, including four o those to Ja’Marr Chase who led Cincy with 4 receptions and 65 yards.

Joe Burrow has not been asked to carry the Bengals on the offensive end. His yardage stats are modest, but his completion percentage is fantastic. He was a bit careless with the ball in the Chicago Bears game throwing three interceptions in the Bengals only loss of the year.

But the Cincy defense is one of the best in the game, allowing just 17 points a game to opponents over the first three games.

Jacksonville's tale of the tape

Jacksonville has had a much rougher start to the season. With one of the youngest teams in the league, and a rookie head coach in the NFL, it was more than predictable that the Jags would struggle from the get go. The Houston Texans walloped them in Week 1, while the Broncos iced the offense in the second game of the regular season.

Trevor Lawerence has had a bumpy start to his NFL career. He’s coming off his best game when if you look purely at yardage. He three for 332 yards against the Texans last week, but he also threw three interceptions. He has a total of seven picks over first three games.

He will need some help from his running backs, James Robinson and Carlos Hyde. Robinson is coming off of his best day of the season against the Texans after getting 88 yards on 15 carries.
