Tom Brady’s return to Gillette Stadium is the major storyline of Week 4 of the NFL season, as the legendary quarterback faces the New England Patriots for the first time since leaving for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brady a six-time Super Bowl winner with Patriots

When he joined the Bucs in March 2020, Brady, 44, brought an end to an illustrious, 20-year spell with the Patriots that saw the star appear in nine Super Bowls and help New England to victory in six of them.

That haul of six championship rings was already a record for an NFL player before Brady added a seventh in Tampa Bay’s 31-9 Super Bowl LV win over the Kansas City Chiefs in February.

Four Super Bowl MVPs with New England

He claimed the Super Bowl MVP award in four of the Patriots’ championship wins, before adding a fifth Pete Rozelle Trophy in the Bucs’ triumph over the Chiefs. San Francisco 49ers great Joe Montana is the next-most frequent winner of the Super Bowl MVP in NFL history, with three.

Between 2000 and 2019, Brady made a total of 324 starts for the Patriots, with his stats for New England also including a completion percentage of 64% and 58 game-winning drives.

He finished his Patriots career - which included 17 seasons in the playoffs - with a 219-61 win-loss record in the NFL regular season, and a 30-11 record in the postseason.

How much did Brady earn as a New England Patriots player?

Brady is reported to have been paid around $235 million during his 20 years with the Patriots, at an average of $11.75 million a season. He has remained one of the world’s highest-earning athletes since leaving Foxborough, with Forbes estimating his 2021 Bucs pay packet at $45 million.

Another record in the offing for Brady this weekend

Brady’s Buccaneers, who are 2-1 so far in the 2021 NFL regular season, take on the Patriots at Gillette Stadium at 8:20pm EDT on Sunday.

The Week 4 clash brings with it the opportunity for Brady to break fellow NFL great Drew Brees’ career passing yardage record. The veteran needs just 68 more yards to surpass the total of 80,358 that Brees racked up for the San Diego Chargers and the New Orleans Saints between 2001 and 2020.
