Russell Westbrook emphasised the importance of staying "focused" after he and Anthony Davis put 68 points on the board between them in the LA Lakers' 125-121 win at the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.

In the absence of the injured LeBron James, the nine-time NBA All-Star scored 33 points, with 10 rebounds and eight assists in a sold-out AT&T Center, while Davis added 35 points of his own.

Westbrook stated after the victory the importance of being ready to go again for the trip to his former team Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday.

Westbrook: "The hardest thing to do is to be consistent"

"You've got start preparing tonight," he said. "One thing I learned a long time ago as a young player in this league, the hardest thing to do is to be consistent and to be able to do the same thing every night.

"I pride myself on being able to turn the page and do the same thing again the next night, just making sure we focus. My job is to make sure all our guys are focused, get this game behind us and get ready for tomorrow."

Westbrook also exclaimed how enjoyable it was to experience support in a game on the road, with the trip to San Antonio being his first away game in a Lakers jersey.

"I'm not used to people cheering for me on the road," he added. "That's a different experience for me."

Lakers head coach Frank Vogel said following the win that Westbrook's performance showed exactly why the decision was made to bring the 32-year-old point guard to Los Angeles.

"That's why we felt great about this move," he said. "Last year we lost LeBron and AD for a long stretch, and we didn't have enough to sustain throughout the regular season and win in the playoffs.

"To get a guy like Russ, if one of those guys is down, we have another guy that can put up a monster night like we saw tonight."
