Seahawks' Wilson has pin removed from his finger

Russell Wilson has a pin removed from his right middle finger which had previously been surgically repaired. The Seattle Seahawks quarterback moved a bit closer to his return from what has been the lengthiest injury of his career so far. There is of course still doubt as to whether or not Wilson will be available for his team's game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on November 14th. The Seahawks currently sit on a 3-5 record.

On Monday Wilson posted a picture on social media with a caption that read, "No more Pin. Time to Win." Interestingly enough the post came just shortly after Seahawks coach Pete Carroll had told reporters that he had no idea when the pin would be removed. "I don't know when it's coming out and I don't have any updates for you," Carroll said. "Really, we're just kind of hoping for the best in terms of his return and that everything is handled really well as we get him in the mode where he starts to use his hand and his finger with the football and all that. So we've just got to do a good job and see what happens. There's no updates as of now."

Wilson still has a ways to go

Though the removal of the pin is most definitely a positive step for the former Super Bowl champion, it is far from being the final one on his road to return. Carroll was quick to make the point that the team was advised that Wilson's finger will then need to heal for "a couple of days" before he can use the hand to practice or play. "It's how he works after that's out and he's ready to start developing," Carroll said. "It's more that. There's a pretty clear-cut time frame they think for the couple days after that is removed and then it's just how he can progress. Of course, the docs are going to take a look at it and see what it looks like now once he gets it out. That will be the first time he'll be able to bend his finger, so we've got to see how that works out."

How did Russell Wilson get injured?

It was during the Seahawks loss to the Los Angeles rams when Wilson he hit his hand against Aaron Donald in the 3rd quarter. Wilson then had surgery the following day on October 8th. According to Dr. Steven Shin - who operated on Wilson - the surgery was to correct a tendon rupture (mallet finger) and a fracture-dislocation. Wilson has now been on the IR for the past four weeks and three days.

How have the Seahawks been doing without Wilson?

On Sunday the Seahawks finally managed to snap their three-game losing streak, as Geno Smith - Wilson's replacement - lifted the Seahawks to a 31-7 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in his third start. Smith registered three touchdowns and no turnovers in his best performance so far. The Seahawks do, however, remain with some injury worries.

Chris Carson remains a doubt having not fully recovered from a neck injury although the running back has stated his intention to train ahead of next week's game against the Packers. Carroll on the other hand was less than clear about that notion. "...So then we'll find out where he stands once we get to practice," Carroll said. "He's real determined to get that done so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for him that he can get a chance to get back on the field and start working with us. That's about as optimistic as we can be until we know more."
