American duo Jesse Marsch and Tyler Adams help RB Leipzig defeat Dortmund
Christopher Nkunku and Yussuf Poulsen scored for Leipzig to secure the victory and the three points against second-placed Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
Earlier this week RB Leipzig battled until the last minute against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League to rescue a point. A late goal from Dominik Szoboszlai from the penalty spot gave the Bundesliga side the point and the American manager Jesse Marsch was applauded for his tactical decisions throughout the 90 minutes.
Another important win for Jesse Marsch
The American coach had little time to savor that well-earned point because his team had to quickly turn their attention to Saturday's game against Borussia Dortmund. Marsch needed a statement win with the Leipzig to clear any doubts in his first year as the head coach.
Marsch and Leipzig managed to obtain the three points thanks a 2-1 win against the second-placed team in the league, which served as the perfect statement for the US coach, who has had question marks hanging over him in his first year. Christopher Nkunku and Yussuf Poulsen scored for Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena and US international Tyler Adams, who was booked in the first half, played the entire game.
"It was important that we were awarded our hard work. We've been playing well in the past weeks but we haven't got the right results. We could definitely score more goals and make life easier for ourselves," said Marsch after the match.
With this result the American head coach will have more time to keep implementing his philosophy and prove he is fit for the Leipzig job. The team is currently in fifth place in the Bundesliga with 18 points and a record of 5W-3D-3L.
