Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s son sentenced for "violently" stabbing his neighbour

The son of basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was sentenced to six months in jail after stabbing a neighbour with a hunting knife during a discussion related to trash cans in his neighborhood in San Clemente, Orange County.

Adam Abdul-Jabbar, 29, has been convicted after pleading guilty to three counts: assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a knife or dagger, and inflicting serious harm on the victim, the prosecutor's office has confirmed.

Abdul-Jabbar accepted a plea deal from an Orange County judge that allows him to apply for home confinement instead of incarceration. Probation officials will have to decide whether he will be permitted home refinement.

Due to the seriousness of the events, prosecutors had requested a prison sentence of seven years and objected to the plea offer.

60-year-old neighbour suffered a skull fracture

Adam Abdul-Jabbar and his neighbour share a driveway and have to throw out their garbage in the same containers. Apparently, the 60-year-old man reproached Abdul-Jabbar for failing to take out the trash cans for his elderly roommate, and that’s when he stabbed the 60-year-old several times.

The man was stabbed in the back of the head so many times that he suffered a skull fracture and nearly bled to death after collapsing outside the emergency room, prosecutors said. "It is an absolute judicial error," said District Attorney Todd Spitzer in a statement after the sentencing. "This man nearly bled to death in front of the emergency room doors after being violently stabbed."

"We believe that the total disregard for human life in a dispute over the dumpsters is so egregious that it justifies the prison sentence," Spitzer concluded.
