Pochettino linked to United job: "How did it get to this?"
FRANCK FIFEAFP

Just a few hours ago, the bombshell dropped in England. Maurico Pochettino is the main candidate to take the Manchester United managerial post. The claim came as a huge surprise to most of the football community. The Argentinean coach is in charge of a major project at Paris Saint-Germain and the club looks set for major success this season. Nevertheless, it appears that something doesn't quite sit right in Pochettino's mind which is making him have second thoughts about the situation.

In France, there have already been suggestions that h could go back to the Premier League. Pochettino's reservations about PSG are pretty plain to see. The French press can sense that something doesn't quite fit. "How did Pochettino get into this situation?"  a piece in today's Le Parisien asked. "He only arrived in January, but has been showing signs of tiredness which he made no attempt to hide in his most recent comments," the French daily added. The article goes on to point out a number of key factors. Firstly, Pochettino's adaptation to life in the French capital. He is still living in a hotel while his family remains in London. Then there are other issues - the difficulty of managing a squad full of stars, the conflict surrounding the goalkeeper's position, the pressure of handling the most expensive frontline in world football (Mbappé, Messi and Neymar) and his allegedly strained relationship with Leonardo.

Pochettino: happier times at Spurs

It's certainly not as comfortable for Pochettino as it was when he was at Tottenham, where he felt he enjoyed greater freedom and felt totally at home. "Blessed with what many would see as a dream job, he never envisaged having to manage the competition between two great goalkeepers, Donnarumma and Navas for a regular place in the side. And the task of having the most exciting attacking trio on the planet seems to annoy him. He freely admits to our English friends that "having three kings at the same club, three kings with different needs (...) isn't easy". But doesn't he really plan to invest time into doing it?" Le Parisien concludes.

The fans are not excessively satisfied with Pochettino either; he didn't manage to guide the team to the Ligue 1 title last season and there have been doubts about the team's chances in the Champions League - both last season and in the current edition. There has been talk of a possible two-way operation with Pochettino going to United and Zidane taking up his place at PSG. Anything is possible, although a number of issues and situations would need to change for that to happen.
