Bayern Munich 3-0 Barcelona summary: score, goals, highlights, Champions League 2021/22
Bayern Munich vs FC Barcelona: UEFA Champions League live
Cheers for joining us this evening on a night when Bayern made it six wins from six in Group E as the German side will be joined by Benfica and FC Barcelona must make do with Europa League action in 2022.
Barcelona crash out of the 2021-22 Champions League and must do with Europa League football. A major challenge ahead for Xavi as the Catalan side are outclassed by the German side.
The referee checks his watch and calls time on the action.
Very little for Neuer to do in the second half. Barcelona have offered little in terms of goal threat it has to be said.
Poor from Sane who scoops recklessly and the ball drifts wide.
Three minutes of time will be added here in Munich.
Still no change to the scoreline in Lisbon as Benfica will progress with city rivals Sporting to the Round of 16. FC Porto will be joined by FC Barcelona in the Europa League.
Sane through on goal and as Ter Stegen slips, the German international drills the ball high and over the bar.
Another change for Barcelona as 18-year-old Demir replaces Gavi.
Mingueza gets an elbow in the face and goes to ground. Barcelona medics attend to the defender who looks shellshocked.
Xavi cuts a forlorn figure on the Barcelona bench. A long road ahead for the man from Terrassa to turn things around at Camp Nou.
Richards carded for a late challenge on Araujo.
As things stand tonight, it looks like Sevilla will be joining Barça in the Europa League as they trail in Austria to Salzburg. Villarreal will face Atalanta tomorrow and will be hoping to join Real and Atletico Madrid in the last 16.
Just over ten minutes of normal time remain. Barcelona's Champions League dream is set to come to an end in Munich as Xavi must now set his sights on the Europa League.
More changes for Bayern as Nianzou and Tillman replace Lewandowski and Sule.
Coutinho poised for an entrance as he comes on for De Jong. Puig on too and he replaces Dembele.
Another change for Bayern as Coman is replaced by Sarr and Richards comes on for Davies.
Barcelona still looking for a way through despite the adverse score-line. A fourth for Bayern does look closer however ....
Upemecano takes a hit from Nico and the youth player needs to be careful after already being carded for handball.
Still Benfica 2-0 Dynamo Kyiv in Lisbon with just over 20' remaining in the Portuguese capital.
The goal stands and that surely ends Barcelona's involvement in the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League.
The ball from the Canadian did seem to go out of play.... VAR to intervene ?
Less than half of an hour remain for Barcerlona to try and turn this tie around and get the three goals they need to advance.... At present, it's the Europa League that beckons for the Catalan men.
Change for Bayern as Roca comes on for Tolisso. Roca a former Espanyol youth talent!
Frenkie de Jong has been excellent for the Catalan side tonight and at the heart of all creative work from the visiting side.
Nico carded for hand ball. Third Barcelona man in the book tonight.
Nico strikes for Barcelona and his effort ricochets off two red shirts. Despite Barça's best efforts, the defending on hand from Bayern in imperious.
Problems for the referee as he seems to have trouble with his audio equipment.
Bayern able to carve Barcelona open with considerable ease as the men in red pass and move through the yellow shirts.
More concern for Barcelona as Gavi seems to have come off badly in a collision with a Bayern man.
Bayern almost make it 3 as Sane just rolls the ball into Ter Stegen's arms with the goal beckoning !
The home side to get the action underway as Nico replaces Dest for Barça.
Barcelona desperately need an early goal to try and get a foothold back in the game.
Very, very difficult to see Barcelona being able to turn this around. Bayern look unstoppable as they look to emulate Liverpool and Ajax with a clean sweep of 6 wins from six.
Group E table (at half-time)
With Bayern and Benfica 2-0 ahead at the interval, this is the 'live' Group E table.
The snow continues to fall as the Romanian referee brings an end to the first half and Barcelona have a hell of a task ahead if they want to advance in the Champions League. Muller and Sane have the home side ahead and with Benfica ahead in Lisbon, Barcelona will head to the Europa League.
Dembele breaks but Sane sprints back and assists in defensive duty to rob the French winger.
We'll have 2 minutes of time to be added on.
Decent hit but poor from Ter Stegen who completely misjudges the flight of the ball.
Five minutes remain in Munich and Barcelona have really yet to properly test Manuel Neuer in the Bayern goal.
Benfica ahead, a goal down in Munich, Jordi Alba off with a hamstring issue....not a great start for Xavi's men so far !
Ter Stegen dives well to save from Muller. Dembele breaks for Barcelona and drives the ball into the side netting.
A hard task initially for Barcelona has just become that bit harder. With Benfica ahead in Lisbon, Barcelona need to win !
Bayern go ahead as Muller nods into the net with the ball adjudged to have crossed the line. Lewandowski with the assist.
Coman crosses and Musiala's header was straight at Ter Stegen. Bayern enjoying the better of the opening 32 minutes without a doubt in Munich.
Sule almost gives the ball away at the back and Neuer was alert. Just a hint of complacency from the home side.
Change for Barcelona as Mingueza replaces the injured Jordi Alba.
Jordi Alba seems to have tweaked a hamstring and this is not looking good for Barcelona. The right back goes to ground as Oscar Mingueza warms up. Can't see Alba carrying on.
Bayern strike and almost open the scoring. Vital touch from Ter Stegen to avert the danger.
Goal in Lisbon! Gilberto bags a second goal for Benfica and the Liga Nos side are now 2-0 to the good.
Memphis falls badly and lies static on the turf at the Allianz Arena. Barcelona need a goal or hope that Dynamo can claw one back.
Memphis to Dembele but the French winger drives the ball high and over the bar.
Goal in Lisbon: Benfica 1-0 Dynamo Kyiv.... as things stand, the Portuguese side would advance.
Bayern break and Muller streaks in on goal but the flag was up.
Deep hit from Sane but easliy dealt with by the Barcelona rear-guard.
Davies clipped by Araujo (who joins Busquets in the book) and more danger for the men in yellow.
Dembele looking sharp this evening with some fine mazy runs down the Barcelona left flank. Neither keeper really been called upon as we pass the 15 minute mark.
Still goalless in Lisbon and a 0-0 in both games would see Barcelona progress.
Alba on hand to avert the danger as Canadian Davies lurked at the back post.
Busquets is back on the pitch again and the Barcelona captain seems to have had his wrist trodden on as Dembele breaks down the Barcelona left hand side and his ball fails to find a team-mate.
Neat work by Barcelona as Alba strikes and Neuer stretches to save well. Both teams moving the ball around well in the opening stage of the action.
Busquets took the ball in the face and is being treated by the Barcelona medics as a precautionary measure.
Danger for the Catalan side.... The Polish striker set to take the kick. Sane takes the kick in the end and the ball crashes into the wall.
Busquets carded after a mistake from Ter Stegen and Lewandowski seemed set to break through on goal.
Both sides do come into tonight's game on the back of different results at the weekend with Bayern beating Dortmund and Barcelona falling at home to Betis.
Decent start from the visitors as they pen the German side deep inside their own half.
We'll hear plenty of chat from the players tonight as this game gives us a brief flashback to last year when football came back in May 2020 after the initial covid outbteak.
Off we go at the Allianz Arena. Barcelona in yellow start the action.
All set in Munich. Can Barcelona progress or will Xavi have to be happy with a place in the Europa League ?
Sleet/snow continues to fall at an empty Allianz Arena as the sides take to the pitch. Fans not allowed this evening die to the ongoing covid situation in Bavaria.
All set in Munich. We'll keep you posted with goal info from Lisbon with the Benfica-Dynamo Kyiv game key set to be key in the outcome of Group E tonight.
Barcelona have never beaten Bayern in Munich...will tonight be the first time the Catalan side break that hoodoo? Kick-off is just 5 minutes away in the Bavarian capital.
650th appearance for Busquets
Sergio Busquets will make his 650th appearance for the Catalan club tonight in Munich !
A reminder of the starting XI's ahead of tonight's game. Dembele gets a rare start for Barcelona as Nagelsmann names a full strength Bayern side.

Barcelona last in UEFA Cup/Europa League 17 years ago
Should Barcelona finish third in Group E and drop into the Europa League on Wednesday, they will make their first appearance in UEFA's second-tier club competition since 2003/04, when a sixth-placed LaLiga finish the previous season meant they had to settle for a place in the UEFA Cup. In their first year under Frank Rijkaard, Barça saw off Matador Púchov, Panionios and Brondby in the opening three rounds of the tournament, before a 1-0 aggregate defeat to Celtic in the last 16.
When did Barcelona last fail to reach the last 16?
Barcelona last failed to make the Champions League knockout stages back in 2000/01, when they were eliminated in the first of two group phases after finishing third behind AC Milan and Leeds United. Then coached by Lorenzo Serra Ferrer, Barça began their campaign with a 4-0 home thumping of Leeds, but failed to win another game until the final round of Group H matches and were pipped to second by the Premier League club.
Atalanta-Villarreal in doubt
Despite the small snow flurry here in Munich, major snowfall in Bergamo has thrown tonight's Atalanta vs Villarreal clash into doubt with a thick white blanket covering the Serie A team's pitch.
Barça to sport 'Senyera' kit
The Catalan side will wear their yellow change kit tonight with the shirt boasting red diagonal stripes with the design based on the Catalan state flag or 'Senyera' as its known.
Ovidiu Haţegan set to oversee Bayern-Barça
Romanian referee Ovidiu Hategan has been designated by UEFA to oversee tonight's Champions League Group E clash in Germany.
Julian Nagelsmann not taking any short-cuts in naming a strong Bayern XI with Lewandowski and Muller leading the line for the German champions.
Xavi adamant Barça don't need a 'miracle'
Xavi remains convinced qualification for the Champions League knockout phase is realistic for Barcelona despite their pivotal matchday six game being a trip to the mighty Bayern Munich.
Barça go to into tonight's Munich test with seven points, just two more than a Benfica side that will expect to beat Dynamo Kiev.
Die Roten have lost just twice at the Allianz Arena all year, with Eintracht Frankfurt claiming a 2-1 victory just over two months ago and Paris Saint-Germain winning 3-2 back in April.
Bayern are already on the longest run of successive victories by any team against Barcelona in the history of the Champions League/European Cup (three wins), a sequence that included the 8-2 in August 2020 and a comprehensive 3-0 success earlier this season.
The odds will be stacked against a Barcelona side who suffered their first defeat of Xavi's tenure at the weekend, but the former midfielder is looking to instil some belief.
"We will try," he told reporters. "He who tries and rows to the end does not fail, and I do not believe in the word failure.
"We depend on ourselves and it will be difficult, but at the moment we have the idea of going there to win the game, dominate and create chances. If Barcelona are knocked out, we will talk about it.
Empty Allianz Arena awaits
Tonight's game will be played at am empty Allianz Arena due to an increase in local covid cases in Bavaria and this may just play into Barcelona's hands without the usual 70,000 Bayern fans to drive their side along.
What Barcelona must to do qualify for last 16
Having beaten Barcelona 3-0 in Lisbon on matchday two, Benfica have the head-to-head advantage over the Catalans, so Jorge Jesus' team will claim second place if the two sides finish level on points. Should Benfica beat Dynamo Kyiv, therefore, a draw will not be enough for Barça against Bayern - only a win will do.
If Benfica fail to take the three points against Kyiv, on the other hand, Barcelona will qualify for the last 16 whatever their result in Munich.
Group E (pre-game)
Bayern Munich have been ruthless with five wins from five games and have secured top position. Barcelona need a win to guarantee advancing and anything less will having us focused on the action in Lisbon as Benfica face Dynamo Kyiv as we can see from the current Group E table after five rounds of games.
The action at the Allianz Arena gets underway at 15:00 (ET) / 21:00 (local time)
Hello and a very warm welcome to the final group game in Group E for Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona with the German side already through to the Round of 16 and the Catalan side needing a win in Bavaria.
