The Washington Football Team will reveal its new name on February 2.

Countless people have been waiting for this moment, which now comes in perfect timing as the team wraps up another disappointment this weekend.

The Washington Football team has been struggling on and off the field, so this announcement brings some excitement to the franchise.

Team president Jason Wright announced Tuesday that the new name will not be ‘Wolves’ or ‘Redwolves’ but is certainly one that many people love.

Why is the Washington Football Team not choosing ‘Wolves’?

Wright mentioned that when the team put Wolves on a list of options to fully explore, they stumbled upon a notable challenge: "trademarks held by other teams would limit our ability to make the name our own. And without Wolves, variations like RedWolves wouldn't have been viable either for these and other reasons."

That’s why the name the franchise will reveal on February 2nd is assuredly one without “distracting obstacles, legal or otherwise. "

Why did the Washington Football Team decide to change its name, again?

In July 2020, Washington changed its name to the 'Washington Football Team' following the increasing pressure to change its previous name, the Redskins, due to its racist connotations

Wright continued on Tuesday that they are “confident that this identity is one that our team and our fans across D.C., Maryland, Virginia and beyond can rally behind for another 90 years and more as we continue to cheer on Burgundy & Gold in this next chapter."

Washington is playing its last game of the regular season on Sunday at the New York Giants.
