It has been reported by local station KCTV5 that Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay was arrested on Wednesday night for misdemeanor criminal damage. This news comes in as preparations gear up for the huge Divisional Round playoff clash against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Chiefs' Willie Gay arrested

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s booking report, Gay was arrested charged with misdemeanor destruction of property of less than $1,000. It has been reported that the 23 year old was visiting his son at home when he got into an argument with his son's mother, at which point he broke a vacuum cleaner. The sequence of events was seemingly corroborated by his legal representative in statement.  “No one was touched…beyond the broken appliance,” attorney Maxx Lepselter said. The police report does, however, go on to state that a cell phone screen protector, humidifier and wall and trim around a door frame were also damaged.

A look at Willie Gay the Chiefs' LB

It’s worth noting that Gay’s preseason toe injury has been an issue for him this season and saw him miss a number of games for the Chiefs at the beginning of the campaign.

Since returning he has been an important cog in their defensive wheel and that has resulted in the team growing from strength to strength, most recently taking apart the Steelers 42-21 in their first game of the postseason. Ahead of that game, in 437 snaps Gay recorded 48 tackles, four passes deflected and two interceptions. While the Chiefs will still head into their clash with Buffalo as favorites, Gay's absence will surely do them no favors.

*At the time of writing it was reported that Willie Gay pleaded not guilty in his hearing. More details to follow.
