Christopher James Uzomah, who’s known as C.J. Uzomah in the NFL, is an American football tight end for the Cincinnati Bengals.

In today’s AFC Championship game vs the Kansas City Chiefs, Uzomah suffered an MCL sprain in the first quarter of the game and did not return

The 29-year-old tight end played college football at Auburn and was drafted as a fifth-round pick by the Bengals in the 2015 NFL Draft. After his first contract expired with Cincinnati, Uzomah became an unrestricted free agent and re-signed with the Bengals in March of 2019.

During his time in Cincinnati, Uzomah has developed into one of Cincinnati's most reliable offensive players, when healthy.

After rejoining the Bengals, Uzomah started the team’s first two games before quickly ending his season due to an Achilles injury in Game two at Cleveland. He had eight catches for 87 yards and a 23-yard touchdown that was the first career TD pass for Bengals QB Joe Burrow. He then missed 14 games in the 2020 NFL season.

Uzomah on celebrating Bengals’ Championship

After returning from his injury in 2021, Uzomah wasn’t just “ecstatic” to be back in the field, but he also had big hopes for Cincinnati: celebrating a championship. He shared back in June that after watching Chelsea, his favorite soccer team, win the UEFA Champions League title in May, he wanted to celebrate a championship, too.

The Bengals, who never won the Super Bowl, and at that time, had their last championship game in 1988. Tonight, the Bengals didn’t just face off the Kansas City Chiefs in a stunning AFC Championship game, but they also clawed their way back into the Super Bowl, after defeating the Chiefs 27-24.

While Uzomah was not able to finish the game with Cincinnati, at least he now gets to celebrate the championship he hoped for.
