Raging bull sends cyclist flying in California

A cyclist taking part in the Rock Cobbler trial in California decided to take a short cut but didn't reckon with a territorial bull he tried to cycle past.

The Rock Cobbler gravel race in Bakersfield, California is not for the faint-hearted. In fact it's described by organisers as "a stupidly hard thrill ride, bordering on a race." As if that wasn't enough, they freely admit it was "conceived by madmen." The course covers 80 miles with a total elevation gain of 6,000 feet.

So anyone entering knows they're in for a tough time, but what riders weren't necessarily expecting was to meet a large, angry, territorial bull who was less than pleased at finding a cyclist daring to pedal across his range. You can see the results in the video above.

The rider who was hit in the attack captured on video, Tony Inderbitzin, spoke to the Cowboy State Daily and said he was "sore all over", with the main issue his neck "from the second throw". "The list of what doesn't hurt is my left arm and head," he said.

According to news reports at least three other participants were involved in incidents with the bull out on the course. Organisers have said they will review the route for next year to avoid any more bull-related incidents.
