The Dallas Mavericks gave up a 21 point first half lead to the Los Angeles Lakers, but held on to win on their last of a five game road trip. Luka Doncic paved the way for the Mavs, scoring 25 points in the road win.

LeBron vs. Luka

It was a battle of two of the biggest stars in the game, but in the end it came down to the Mavs role players in the final quarter from Crypto.com Arena.

The Mavs came into the game on the heels of a fantastic fourth quarter comeback against the Golden State Warriors, and were looking to finish off the last of a five game road trip in good fashion.

The Lakers were hoping to make amends to the LA fans that lashed out in boos in the ugly loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday.

Mavs take big lead in second

The first quarter was played close as both teams exchanged leads through the opening 12 minutes of the game. Doncic came to life in the second half, which opened things up for Jalen Brunson on the perimeter.

Dallas was able to stretch the lead out to 21 in the second quarter, and the fans around the former Staples Center started to grow restless as the Mavericks went to the break up 15 after two quarters. Luka and Brunson both had 15 at half, while LeBron James was held to 11 points after starting the game at center in the absence of Anthony Davis.

Frank Vogel’s side looked like a new team coming out of halftime. They scored eight straight points. The surge brought the fans back to life, and the LeBron ignited the Crypto.com Arena with back-to-back-to-back threes to tie up the game.

Dallas overcome an ice cold 3rd Q

Dallas scored just 14 points in a third quarter in which they gave up the lead. The Lakers looked like they took control of the game back, the Dallas defense turned up in the final 12 minutes.

Doncic was quiet until the final minutes of the game, but Brunson and Dorian Finney-Smith carried the late load for Dallas until the Slovenian took over the spotlight. Luka made a couple of nearly impossible shots to take the lead back from the Lakers with under four minutes to play.

The Lakers couldn’t find any good looks around the basket in the final couple minutes and their comeback efforts were cut short.

Dallas' hot streak continues

Doncic led the Mavs with 25, 8 rebounds and 5 assists while Brunson had 22 on 4-6 shooting from downtown to secure the fourth win on the five game road trip.

The Mavs have now won 21 of their last 28 dating back to early December, while the Lakers continue to fall down the Western Conference Standings dropping their 10th game in their last 13.

It's all over! The Mavs win it on the road, and Dallas imrove to 21-7 since early December, while the Lakers continue to struggle with the playoffs closing in.

Doncic hits the FT to make it a three possession game and that will offcially end the Lakers chances.

Brunson misses the open three, and Johnson punches back with a three on the other end. Those shots were dropping for the Mavericks in the first half, but a 13-1 run for the Lakers to start the second half has LA back in action.

The Lakers are rolling out of the gate. Johnson drains the three ball and thats 8 straight points, and 12 straight dating back to the second quarter.

Five straight points for the Lakers who cut the lead to 10, and the Mavs have gone cold.

Reeves goes down in a heap after taking an elbow from Bullock. He's back on his feet and will remain in the game.

We are headed to halftime in Los Angeles. The good news for the Lakers is they haven't been booed by their fans. The bad news is they trailed by as many as 21, and go to the break down 15.

James driving and for the first time all game it looks like he wanted to take it all on his shoulders. He needed to show that a bit earlier when the Mavs started to pull away.

34 of the Mavs 62 points have come in the paint, and Dallas is getting to the basket whenever they want.

Westbrook is blocked by Doncic, and he goes after the ref for not calling a foul, which earns him a tech. Vogel went after the ref right after, and he got T'ed up as well. This is a team that looks like they can't control the frustration because they don't understand how they can be playing so bad.

Just like that the Mavs go on a little run and lead by 18. They are shooting 55.6% from the field and are in command with 4:43 to go in the half

Brunson is slow to get up after a drive to the rim and Johnson landed right on his ankle. He's back on his feet and will stay in the game.

If they continue to play defense like they did on that Powell dunk, the boos might be coming sooner rather than later.

How much patience will these Lakers fans show? They booed thier team on Sunday, and if the Mavs go up by 20 don't be surprised to hear some boobirds back in the Crypto.com Center.

Back to back triples have the Mavs up by 12, which is the largest lead of the game. LA continues to try to double either Doncic or Dinwiddie and that is leaving some openings on the perimeter. Timeout with 8:17 in the first half

The Lakers finaly bring an end to a 4:30 scoreless drought, but the Mavs are starting to stretch their lead.

Dinwiddie starts the second quarter off with a bang, hitting the floater and one. Dinwiddie is showing he's going to be a welcomed addition for the Mavs. They gave away Porzingis to get him, so they knew he would be an important part of this team.

The first quarter comes to a close, and we've got a tight game through the opening 12 minutes. Dallas end the quarter on an 8-0 run on the shoulders of Doncic who has 12 points heading into the second quarter. LeBron hasn't got going just yet after starting the game at center.

Monk with five straight points, and his role on this team should not be overlooked. He needs to take a bigger role on this team, as hard as it might be with all of these certified legends on the Lakers roster.

As so often is the question, who is going to step up and help Doncic on the offensive end? Dinwiddie had a big game in Golden State on Sunday.

It's been a choppy start to this game. Lots of fouls and stoppages in the opening two minutes. That doesn't really favor either of these teams, but LA will be anxious to get off to a better start early in the first quarter.

It comes as no surprise that LeBron can fill in where ever he is needed on the court with his size and strength, but this will take away from him on the perimeter. That could force the perimeter players to be a bit more independent and not so reliant on LeBron.

Anthony Davis continues to nurse his sprained foot back to 100% and will be  unavailable for the Lakers. Avery Bradley will also miss tonight’s game, he is still feeling the affects of a recent knee injury.

Even without their superstar, the Mavs played LA close forcing overtime, and dropping the game by just three points. LeBron led all scorers with 24 points, and Russell Westbrook had 20 points and was an assist away from a triple-double in the 107-104 win back in December.

Luka and the Mavs have started to turn it on over the last few weeks, and are 3-1 on their current five game road trip. If they can return home with four wins out of five away from Dallas, that would them inch them closer to the top four in the West, and a coveted home court in the first round of the playoffs.

Big comeback for Big D

Dallas looked done and dusted going into the fourth quarter at the Chase Center, but a huge comeback saw the Mavs stun Steph Curry and the Warriors. Luka and the Mavs outscored  Golden State 33-13 in the fourth quarter Doncic ended the game with 34 points and 11 rebounds while newcomer Spencer Dinwiddie had 10 of his 24 in the final quarter.

James and Westbrook involved in spat with fans

LeBron James and Russell Westbrook both took turns jawing at the home fans who booed the Lakers lackluster performance. The fans are not booing without reason. LA has lost nine of their last 12 games and sit 9th in the West at 27-33 on the year.

The Lakers were embarrassed by the New Orleans Pelicans at home over the weekend. They were booed back to the bench after trailing by 30 points going into the fourth quarter. They went on to lose 123-95 while committing 23 turnovers.
