NBA

Chaos ensues as Thunder and Grizzlies look a little too similar

Things got confusing and the game had to be delayed in Oklahoma City on Sunday when the Grizzlies showed up wearing the same colors as their opponents.

Who lost Sunday’s Thunder vs Grizzlies game? The white team. Oh, wait. That gets confusing if both teams are wearing white, doesn’t it? It’s not often (if ever) we see that happen, but on Sunday, it did. The game had to be delayed because both Memphis and Oklahoma City were wearing all white uniforms.

How did the uniform mishap happen?

The NBA permits teams to wear whichever colors they want, so the team can decide whether they want to wear light or dark jerseys, no matter if they’re home or away. In this case, the Grizzlies, as the home team, had chosen to wear white. The NBA has a platform called LockerVision, which posts all the regular-season uniforms, and in this matchup, the Grizzlies were supposed to have worn their away blues. Somehow that got lost on them.

Fortunately, both teams carry their alternate uniforms with them. The Grizzlies equipment manager confirmed the Grizzlies would have to change and the game was delayed so that the Grizzlies players could change into their away blues. Imagine the confusion that would have occurred had both teams tried to play in all white.

In the end, the blue team won. Desmond Bane led the Grizzlies with 21 points and seven rebounds in their 125-118 victory over the Thunder.
