KAT hits NBA season and career-record 60 points in win over Spurs

Karl-Anthony Towns became the first NBA center since Shaq to have a 60-point game, dominating San Antonio to bring the Timberwolves to victory.

Update:
KAT hits NBA season and career-record 60 points in win over Spurs

In the year 2000, over two decades ago, Shaquille O’Neal had a 60-point performance with the Lakers, a feat no other center in the NBA has been able to accomplish…until Monday.

Karl-Anthony Towns dominated in the Minnesota Timberwolves victory over the San Antonio Spurs, hitting a career-high 60 points, shooting 19-for-31 overall with 17 rebounds and 7-for-11 on three-pointers.

Records (yes, plural) that KAT set in 60-point domination

Towns' 60-point performance made him the first player in the NBA to ever reach 60 points, 15 rebounds, and 60 percent three-point shooting in one game.

This also makes him the first No.1 overall pick to hit 60 since LeBron James’ 60-point game back in 2014. He surpassed James’ and Trae Young’s previous shared title as the highest-scorer (with 56 points) in the NBA this season.

The majority of Towns' points were scored in the third quarter with 32 points, the fourth-most scored in a single quarter in the last 25 years.

The Timberwolves went on to beat the Spurs 149-159. Towns made two free throws to bring his total to 57 and then hit a three-pointer with just under two minutes in the game to bring him to a nice even 60.

Minnesota now sits just a game and a half behind the Denver Nuggets for sixth place in the Western Conference. The Timberwolves will host the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.
