Gareth Bale smirks while taking sarcastic dig at Ancelotti

The way Gareth Bale's season has been going, you'd think the last thing he would do would be to casually laugh it off. The 32-year-old has made just a handful of appearances in LaLiga - he has played a total of just 77 minutes in 2022, covering the for the injured Karim Benzema in the goalless draw with Villarreal in February and three minutes at the end of Madrid's Champions League tie against PSG - his only appearance in the competition this season. He hasn't starred at all in the Copa del Rey or Spanish Super Cup. Various different injuries have kept him out of the side for most of the season and he will be leaving the club when his contract expire in June.

But Bale's fitness issues never seem to stop him from joining up with the Wales squad. He is on international duty, preparing for Wales' World Cup play-off against Austria. And when asked about his physical condition this week, he couldn't resist taking a veiled swipe at Carlo Ancelotti. "It's normal to have some niggles now and again but I've been good, I've been training for the last two and a half months - I got some minutes, maybe three weeks ago or so!" he sniggered.
