USMNT to play a friendly match against Argentina
As preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Argentina national team will play in the United States against the USMNT and Mexico.
Argentina was the second team in CONMEBOL after Brazil, to qualify directly to the 2022 FIFA World Cup during the international break of January. The Albiceleste will finish the qualifiers by playing against Ecuador at Estadio Monumental Banco Pichincha.
Once the World Cup qualifiers in CONMEBOL are over, the team captained by Lionel Messi will turn the page quickly and prepare their participation for Qatar 2022. According to TUDN, Argentina is set to play two exhibition fixtures prior to the World Cup against the USMNT and Mexico in stadiums located in the United States.
Bad memories for the USMNT and Mexico
In case this is confirmed, this will be the first time the United States men’s national team plays against Argentina since 2016. Both sides met in the semi-finals of the Copa America Centenario and Lionel Messi led the CONMEBOL side to a 4-0 win at the NRG stadium.
The Mexico national team doesn’t have a pleasant memory of recent meetings against Argentina. The last time both sides met was during a friendly held at Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas and without Lionel Messi, Argentina won 4-0 against El Tri, which was the first defeat if Gerardo Martino since taking the job.
