USA in Group B at the World Cup 2022, rivals, matches, schedule
The USMNT has been drawn in Group B at the Qatar World Cup, where they will play England, Iran and the winner of Ukraine/Scotland/Wales.
The United States Men's soccer team has been drawn in Group B at the World Cup draw held in Doha, Qatar on Friday afternoon.
Group B for USA in Qatar
Placed in the second-seeded pot, the USA will play against England, Iran and the winner of the European play-off, which will be between Wales and the winner of the Ukraine - Scotland match, which is still to be organized due to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
England are the first seeds in the group, the USA second, with Iran third and Ukraine/Scotland/Wales coming out of pot four.
The World Cup starts this year on November 21 and runs to December 18.
USA: Possible route to the World Cup final
The USA need to finish first or second in their World Cup Group B to get into the second round.
England are expected to win the Group, but USA, as second seeds, would certainly hope to be in with a good shout of taking second place. Let's imagine they did so, what would be their route to the final...
As Group B runners up, that would see them playing the winner of Group A, which is between Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal and the Netherlands. So let's say a USA - Netherlands second round (round of 16 match).
Next up would probably be Argentina in the quarter-finals, as the winners of Group C, having beaten the runners up of Group D. Following that would be a semi-final against either Brazil (or possibly Spain, as they'd likely meet in the quarter-finals).
And the final would be against France, who would win their quarter-final against England and their semi-final vs Portugal.
So World Cup final: USA vs France on December 18. USMNT fans can dream, can't they?
If USA win Group B
If the USA can win Group B, things are, on paper, somewhat easier: Senegal in the second round, France in the quarter-finals, Portugal in the semi-final and Brazil in the final. Or Spain. Or Argentina.
