2023 Grammy Awards: Who’s attending, skipping, and performing at music’s biggest night?
Just days before the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, let’s break down the who and who isn’t of the show.
With only a few days left until the 65th annual Grammy Awards, and the full performer lineup yet to be announced, here is how the show is shaping up.
Ahead of the February 5 show happening at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com arena yet again, it seems that the list of performers has been announced unusually late. Just this week Harry Styles was announced as one of the performers for the show.
Who is performing at the Grammy Awards?
The announcement was revealed in a commercial break during the fourth quarter of the Kansas City Chiefs-Cincinnati Bengals AFC Championship game on Sunday night. The rest of the performers were announced only a week earlier.
The previously announced performers include Bad Bunny, Mary J. Blige, Brandi Carlile, Luke Combs, Steve Lacy, Lizzo, Sam Smith, and Kim Petras. It’s also reported by Variety that DJ Khaled may make a surprise appearance as a performer with Jay Z.
With a total of 18 performer slots, there are also several all-star tributes to be expected. Kacey Musgraves will pay homage to the late Loretta Lynn with ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ and Sheryl Crow, Mick Fleetwood, and Bonnie Raitt will honor Christine McVie with ‘Songbird’.
Maverick City Music and Quavo will perform ‘Without You’ in memory of Takeoff. Fifty years of hip-hop will also get its own tribute curated by Questlove, though the full artist lineup has yet to be announced.
In the last few weeks, there have been reports circulating that the Grammy Awards are attempting to secure a major female pop star to perform, with fans quickly speculating Beyonce, Adele, or Taylor Swift as options.
Adele recently confirmed she will be attending the show as a guest, despite rumors she will be skipping. Variety reported that Swift will not be performing, leaving only Beyonce left for speculation.
Who’s attending the Grammy Awards?
All the best new artist nominees, Anitta, Omar Apollo, DOMi & JD Beck, Samara Joy, Latto, Måneskin, Muni Long, Tobe Nwigwe, Molly Tuttle, and Wet Leg are expected to be in attendance, but not perform.
Doja Cat, who recently unveiled a stunning 30,000 Swarovski crystal look at Paris Fashion week is expected to walk the red carpet. She is also up for six nominations.
Future, who is up for Best Rap Album, along with five other nominations, is also set to attend. As well as Zach Bryan, who is nominated for Best Solo Country Performance.
Who is skipping the Grammy Awards?
Lady Gaga, who is up for two awards for her song ‘Hold my Hand’ for the movie ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ will not be in attendance due to scheduling issues. Finneas, who is up for Best Song Written for Visual Media, is on tour in Australia, making it impossible to be in attendance.
It is unclear whether Drake, who is up for several awards for his collaborative projects with Future and Jack Harlow, will attend. However, it’s reported that his attendance at award shows is rarely confirmed ahead of time.
With more surprises to come, the 2023 Grammy Awards will air Sunday, February 5, at 8 p.m. ET on the CBS television network.
