Barbie and Succession lead the nominees for the 2024 Golden Globe awards, which take place in Beverly Hills this weekend. Both received nine nods when the nominations were announced in December, followed by Oppenheimer with eight.

Two new awards have been added to the line-up ahead of the 81st edition of the annual TV and film awards gala, which will be the first since the disbanding of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Globes’ scandal-plagued former organisers. Eight movies - including Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film - are up for the inaugural Cinematic and Box Office Achievement prize, while six comics are in the running to become the first ever recipient of the Golden Globe for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on TV.

Meanwhile, Hollywood legend Meryl Streep is in contention to add to her record haul of Golden Globes. The 74-year-old, who has so far picked up six awards in acting categories over the course of a five-decade career, has been nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on TV.
