All the television and streaming information you need if you want to watch the 81st annual Golden Globes on Sunday.
Barbie and Oppenheimer, two blockbuster movies that were released on the same day in summer 2023, boast a combined 17 nominations at the 81st Golden Globes, which take place in Beverly Hills this weekend.
Barbie is up for nine gongs at the 2024 gala - a total matched only by the hit HBO series Succession. Check out the list of nominees in full.
New era and new awards for scandal-dogged Globes
A ceremony that kicks off the TV and film awards season, the Golden Globes are being held for the first time since the disbanding of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the event’s controversy-plagued former organisers.
The Globes are now run by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge Industries, which took full control of the awards from the HFPA in June.
Awards in a total of 32 competitive categories are to be handed out at this year’s Golden Globes, including two new prizes: Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, and Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on TV.
What time do the Golden Globes start?
The 2024 Golden Globes are to be staged at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on Sunday 7 January. Live TV coverage of the event is scheduled to get underway at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
How can I watch the Golden Globes in the US?
Viewers in the US will be able to tune in to the 81st Golden Globes on CBS and the network’s streaming platform, Paramount+.
CBS has taken over from NBC as the gala’s broadcast partner, after the latter’s nearly three-decade association with the Globes came to an end in 2023.
Who is hosting this year’s Golden Globes?
The comedian and actor Jo Koy was confirmed as the Golden Globes’ host in December. The Filipino-American, 52, will be only the second Asian to anchor the ceremony, after Sandra Oh in 2019.
“I know that my family is watching, and my culture is watching and there’s a lot of kids that are going to be inspired by this,” Koy told an interview with Variety this week.
