Ryan Gosling ignites Hall H: Marvel confirms he’ll play Ghost Rider in 2028 blockbuster

San Diego Comic‑Con is in full swing, and as always, the Marvel Studios panel delivered the headline everyone had been waiting for. After months — honestly, years — of speculation, Ryan Gosling is officially joining the MCU as Ghost Rider.

Marvel announced that Ghost Rider will hit theaters in 2028, and the project already has a powerhouse creative team. Gosling will reunite with the trio behind Star Wars Starfighter: director Shawn Levy and screenwriter Jonathan Tropper. From a chemistry standpoint, this film looks like it’s starting on the right foot.

Levy is no stranger to Marvel fans. He directed Deadpool & Wolverine, one of the studio’s biggest box‑office triumphs, and he’s also known for hits like Night at the Museum, Free Guy, The Adam Project, and Real Steel.

Gosling, meanwhile, remains one of Hollywood’s most in‑demand stars thanks to films like La La Land, Barbie, The Notebook, and Drive. His recent sci‑fi thriller Project Salvation — now streaming on Prime Video — has only boosted his momentum.

Which Ghost Rider will Gosling play?

Marvel hasn’t confirmed which version of the Spirit of Vengeance he’ll portray, but all signs point to Johnny Blaze, the most iconic Ghost Rider and the one previously played by Nicolas Cage in two widely criticized films.

Kevin Feige hinted that Gosling came in with a clear vision: “He’s a huge comics fan. He approached us with a very specific idea based on certain issues,” Feige said, underscoring how personally invested Gosling is in the role.

The MCU also has a new Black Panther

Marvel didn’t stop there. The studio also revealed major news about Black Panther 3, which will feature Denzel Washington and once again be directed by Ryan Coogler. But the biggest surprise was the reveal of the new king of Wakanda.

David Jonsson — known for The Long Walk and Alien: Romulus — will take on the mantle of Black Panther. He’ll make his MCU debut when the film premieres on December 15, 2028.
