Fans given ‘Dune: Part Two’ first look at CinemaCon
A new trailer for ‘Dune: Part Two’ was revealed at CinemaCon.
A trailer for the highly-anticipated sequel to ‘Dune’ (2021) was released at CinemaCon on Tuesday, giving fans a first look at what the second part will have in store.
‘Dune’ director Denis Villeneuve was joined by stars Timothée Chalamet, who plays the main character Paul Atreides, and Zendaya, who plays Chani, at Warner Bros.’ presentation at the movie convention in Las Vegas.
And while the new trailer has not yet been released by Warner Bros. to the public, those lucky to be at CinemaCon got to see a first glimpse of Paul preparing to ride a sandworm and a first look at a number of new characters, including Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, and Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan Corino.
What is ‘Dune: Part Two’ about?
Following the events of ‘Dune’, ‘Dune: Part Two’ continues the action after Paul and his mother Jessica (played by Rebecca Ferguson) meet the desert-dwelling Fremen, native to the planet of Arrakis, where the movie’s events take place.
Keeping a close connection to Frank Herbert’s novel ‘Dune’, upon which both movies are based, the trailer for ‘Dune: Part Two’ shows Paul as he struggles with the meaning of his life, the prophecy that haunts him, and what role he will play in the future.
More action for ‘Dune: Part Two’
While ‘Dune: Part One’ set up much of the storyline, part two promises to be far more action-oriented, when everything connects and Paul’s story reaches its height.
“Part One is more of a contemplative movie. Part Two is an action-packed, epic war movie. It is much more dense. We went to all new locations,” Villeneuve said ahead of the trailer’s debut.
“I didn’t want a feeling of repetition. It’s all new sets. Everything is new,” the director added.
As for Chalamet, he shed light on what fans can expect for Paul in the sequel.
“In the first movie, Paul is a student,” Chalamet said of his character. “We really see Paul Atrides become a leader … become a redeemer of the Fremen people in a sense.”
Meanwhile, Zendaya spoke about how part two will finally give audiences a better look at who Chani is.
“She’s not just in dreams this time,” the actress began. “I only got a small time to find out who she was [in Part One]. … These are still two young people who are trying to grow up, fall in love and leave, being a warrior for your people.”
New cast members joining ‘Dune: Part Two’
Joining the ‘Dune’ franchise is Florence Pugh, who will play Princess Irulan Corino, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli, and Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV.
When will ‘Dune: Part Two’ be released?
‘Dune: Part Two’ will be released in theaters on November 3, 2023.
