Actor Ryan Reynolds sells his wireless company in an over one billion dollar deal

The Canadian Actor is selling Mint Mobile, a prepaid wireless brand, to a larger company.

Ryan Reynolds is about to get a lot richer. The Canadian Actor and entrepreneur’s wireless company, Mint Mobile is set to be acquired by T-Mobile in a deal worth up to $1.35 billion.

Reynolds owns about 20-25 percent ownership of the company which he acquired in 2019. Reynolds apparently met the founder, David Glickman when they both served on the same board of directors for the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

According to Inc. Magazine Glickman was impressed with how Reynolds marketed Deadpool. The new deal with T-Mobile is set to close later this year.

The official statements

“Mint Mobile is the best deal in wireless and today’s news only enhances our ability to deliver for our customers,” said Reynolds in a statement shortly after the announcement.

He continued, “We are so happy T-Mobile beat out an aggressive last-minute bid from my mom, Tammy Reynolds, as we believe the excellence of their 5G network will provide a better strategic fit than my mom’s slightly-above-average mahjong skills. I am so proud of the entire Mint team and so excited for what’s to come.”

The actor also celebrated the announcement in a video posted to his Twitter account. In the announcement Reynolds and the CEO of T-Mobile, Mike Sievert joke about having a new dad.

Reynolds will still continue his creative role as spokesman for Mint Mobile. He has been previously seen in Mint Mobile’s various advertisements.

The actor’s previous investments

Reynolds has successfully invested in business adventures plenty of times before. In 2020 Diageo PLC acquired Aviation Gin in a $610 million deal, Reynolds is a part owner of the gin company.

The actor also is a part owner of the Welsh football club Wrexham AFC, which he purchased in 2021. The change in ownership was documented by FX’s 2022 TV series ‘Welcome to Wrexham.’

In August 2022, Reynolds acquired an equity stake in FuboTV. Recently, he has been rumored to be interested in purchasing ownership of the Ottawa Senators Hockey Team. The actor confirmed his interest in an interview on ‘The Tonight Show’ with host Jimmy Fallon.
