Adan Canto dies aged 42: a poignant last song left behind
The Mexican actor famous for roles in X-Men, Narcos and Designated Survivor among others, has sadly lost his fight against appendiceal cancer.
Adan Canto, the Mexican actor known for his roles in international series and films, passed away on Tuesday 9 January 2024, at the age of 42. His publicist reported that Canto had been battling appendiceal cancer, a fight he unfortunately lost in recent hours. The actor was especially recognised for his roles in “Designated Survivor,” “The Following,” “The Cleaning Lady” and “Narcos”. He also starred in the Hollywood blockbuster “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
In an official statement, Warner Bros Television and FOX Entertainment expressed their condolences: “We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Adán Canto. A wonderful actor and beloved friend, we were honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment families since his U.S. debut in The Following over a decade ago.”

On his official Instagram account, the Mexican actor, who also shone in Hollywood, posted a photograph for Father’s Day 2022, where he appeared very happy with his family. “Welcome Eve Josephine Canto! Thank you, Father, for the gift of life. And to the most precious family I could have dreamed of being worthy of,” he wrote.
And more recently he left behind this song with his daughter.
Who was Adan Canto?
Adán Canto, born in Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, has built a multifaceted career as both a singer and an actor. His journey into the world of cinema began at the tender age of nine when he appeared in the film “Like Water for Chocolate.” It wasn’t until 2009 that he secured his first leading role in the thriller “Sin memoria,” marking a significant step in his acting career. This was soon followed by a part in the movie “Te presento a Laura.”
Canto’s filmography is diverse and includes a range of notable films and television series. In 2011, he was seen in “Amar no es querer,” and the same year, he featured in “Santiago del otro lado.” His career continued to flourish with his role in “Casi 30″ in 2012. He also made a significant impact on television, with roles in “The Following” in 2013, and notably, in “Designated Survivor” between 2016 and 2019. Most recently, in 2022, he appeared in the series “The Cleaning Lady.”
