A Miami pizzeria has become an overnight sensation after earning a public endorsement from soccer star Lionel Messi.

Messi Insta post sparks Banchero bonanza

At the weekend, the Inter Miami forward took to social media with a photo of a pizza bought from the restaurant, Banchero, with the caption: “Thank you @bancheromiami”.

Messi’s online thumbs-up persuaded crowds of pizza lovers to descend on the eatery, with customers photographed waiting in a line that stretched out onto the street at Collins Avenue and 71st Street.

“Messi’s favorite pizza!”

The restaurant has now updated its Instagram profile to read: “Lionel Messi’s favorite pizza!

And in a post accompanied by a photo of the flood of customers, Banchero wrote on Monday: “Corner of 71st and Collins Ave - look at it! Thank you to everyone for choosing us.”

Referring to Messi with a ‘goat’ emoji - in allusion to the acronym for the phrase ‘greatest of all time’ - the pizzeria told the World Cup winner: “Thank you forever”.

In addition to enjoying a major boost in business, the pizzeria has seen its social-media following rocket to over 50,000.

Atlanta hit Miami with pizza put-down

Meanwhile, Messi’s pizza post served as inspiration for a spot of mickey-taking from Atlanta United after the Five Stripes beat Inter Miami 5-2 in MLS on Saturday:

Messi missing in Atlanta, set for midweek Miami return

Messi sat out the game in Georgia, with Miami head coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino preferring to rest the 35-year-old after his exertions for Argentina during September’s international week.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is expected to return to action for the Herons in Wednesday’s MLS clash with Toronto FC at DRV PNK Stadium.
