World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is working to secure an appearance by soccer great Cristiano Ronaldo at the upcoming WWE show Crown Jewel.

WWE set for Saudi date later this year

The company wants the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to be a superstar guest at the wrestling event, which is slated to take place in Saudi Arabia in November.

Ronaldo, 38, currently plays for Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr, where he signed a two-and-a-half-year contract worth a reported $215m a season in December 2022.

New WWE owners out to harness CR7 star power

In April this year, WWE was bought by UFC owners Endeavor, who now appear keen to boost Crown Jewel’s profile and potential revenue by having Ronaldo at the event - in exchange, of course, for a large appearance fee.

Crown Jewel 2023 the latest Saudi WWE show

WWE has held four previous Crown Jewel events in Saudi Arabia since 2018, as well as a number of other shows. In May, the city of Jeddah was the venue for the 2023 edition of the event Night of Champions.
