While working on the upcoming western film ‘Rust’, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was allegedly accidentally shot and killed by Alec Baldwin after a prop gun turned out to contain live rounds.

The incident occurred in October 2021 and the movie was placed on an indefinite hiatus. The set has since moved from Santa Fe, Mexico to the Yellowstone Film Ranch in Paradise Valley, Montana on Friday as filming resumed.

In October 2022, ‘Rust’ producers settled a wrongful death lawsuit that was filed by Hutchins’ widow, Matthew Hutchins. In addition to the settlement, the team agreed to complete filming the movie.

The director speaks out

Director Joel Souza, who was also injured in the incident, issued a statement.

“Though bittersweet, I am grateful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team is joining former cast and crew to complete what Halyna and I started,” he said. “My every effort on this film will be devoted to honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud.

“The beauty of Montana surpasses words, and the warm hospitality and kindness extended by everyone I’ve met has been both humbling and inspiring,” Souza continued.

“It is a privilege to work alongside such great partners as we see this through on Halyna’s behalf.”

An insider report told People that Baldwin and his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, appeared to be in good spirits while hanging out near the set.

“They were in a good mood,” the insider said. “They seem in good spirits.”

Charges against Baldwin were dropped

In late 2021, Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter, however, all charges against the actor have been dropped, for now.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was in charge of all weapons on set and faces the same charges as Baldwin. Her charges were not dropped.

Both Baldwin and Reed have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Baldwin maintains his stance that he did not pull the trigger. However, it was revealed in a report made last year that the FBI disagrees on the matter.

“We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin, and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident,” Baldwin attorneys Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro said in a statement.
