All Quiet on the Western Front wins the 2023 Best International Feature Film Oscar award
The award goes to the German film directed by Edward Berger and starring Felix Kammerer.
‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ has won the 2023 Best International Feature Film Oscar award.
The film beat out the likes of ‘Argentina, 1985′, ‘Close’, ‘EO’ and ‘The Quiet Girl’ to take the honor.
‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ was viewed as the favorite to take the award, having won Best Film at the BAFTA Awards, which showed it had significant support amongst international voters.
It was also one of eight films - ‘Z’ (1969), ‘The Emigrants’ (1971/72), ‘Life is Beautiful’ (1998), ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ (2000), ‘Amour’ (2012), ‘Roma’ (2018), ‘Parasite’ (2019) and ‘Drive My Car (2021) - to have been nominated for both Best Picture and International Feature.
‘Emigrants’ is the only film from that list to receive nominations in different years and lose the International Feature category, but no movie has ever lost Best International Feature when also nominated for Best Picture.
That streak has continued in 2023 following ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ and its win in the category.
