The 37-year-old will be resuming her role as Stephanie, who plays a campy “mommy vlogger” who meets and immediately befriends Emily, played by Blake Lively. In the original, when Emily mysteriously goes missing after asking Stephanie for a simple favor, Stephanie sleuths to uncover her whereabouts — uncovering much more than she bargained for.

Kendrick let it be known she’s already read the script in an interview with Courtney Lopez on Entertainment Weekly.

“We’ve actually read the script now,” the 37-year-old dished, “and it’s so good.”

Kendrick says that her character is “a bit more savvy” in the sequel.

“Sort of older and wiser [but] at the same time, there are qualities that a person just can’t really change about themselves,” said Kendrick.

“I can’t wait to revisit the hilarious, deeply dark inner world of Stephanie Smothers, and reunite Stephanie and Emily under the watchful and stylish eye of the glorious Paul Feig.”

What director Paul Fieg says about the sequel

Director Paul Fieg confirmed that fan-favorites Kendrick and Blake Lively will be returning to the silver screen for the sequel. The plot of the original film is based on Darcey Bell’s 2017 novel of the same name.

In an interview on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle show, Fieg said that work on the sequel has already begun. He revealed that he’s teamed up with original screenplay writer, Jessica Sharzer.

“We have the script”, the director confirmed. “We love it.”

Fieg let viewers know they could “expect more stylish twists and turns than Ralph Lauren making pretzels while driving down Lombard Street.”

When asked about how he felt about working with Sharzer and the team again, Fieg responded: “’A Simple Favor’ is one of my favorite films I’ve ever made and it’s all because of the amazing writing of Jessica Sharzer and our stunning, hilarious cast headed by my brilliant heroes Anna and Blake.

It’s unclear when fans should expect the sequel in theaters— Blake Lively is currently pregnant, so the cast and crew will look forward to shooting when she is able to return to set. Blake is expected to have her baby in early March.

“It’s gonna get made,” Fieg declared in the interview. “It’s just not sure what the timeline is right now.”

Anna Kendrick reveals what it’s like to work with Blake Lively

Kendrick spoke glowingly about her experience meeting and working with Lively on the first film.

“I met Blake a couple of times before I did this movie and I thought she was incredibly sweet and kind,” the ‘Up in the Air’ actress told Harper’s Bazaar.

“Then getting to know her a little better, it was nice to find out about her sense of humor. She’s got a dark side, a sarcastic side, and that’s great because it’s nice when somebody’s nice, but how are you going to get along with them for an entire movie when you have my brain? So that was fantastic.”
