Are there plans for a ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2’?

‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ has only just hit theaters, but will there be a sequel?

Early reviews for ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ have been positive, and with the film expected to perform well at the box office, fans are already wondering whether there will be a sequel.

Although creators have been reluctant to talk about whether the film will become a franchise, there are hints that a second film could happen.

Are there plans for a ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ sequel?

One of these hints comes in the form of a post-credits scene at the end of the film, so for those of you haven’t seen the film, this post will include spoilers.

The first scene takes place during the credits. Bowser (Jack Black), who has been shrunk via a blue mushroom and captured by the Toads, is stuck in a cage and passes the time by singing to Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy).

He’s interrupted by one of Peach’s Toads, who tells him to keep the noise down. The scene reminds viewers that while Bowser is usually very big, he’s been cut down to size in order to protect the Mushroom Kingdom.

However, fans who stuck around were treated to another scene at the end of the credits that hints at the fact there may be another Super Mario movie in the works.

The scene sees a white egg with big green spots begin to move. It begins to crack just as the movie fades to black, but not before a tiny voice yells out “Yoshi”.

While the movie features almost all of the characters fans have to come to love from the Super Mario world, Yoshi is nowhere to be found.

There is one scene were several multi-colored Yoshis are running, but green-character fans have to come to love isn’t one of them.

Yoshi made his debut in 1990

Yoshi is the name of the famous green dinosaur and Mario ally who made his debut in Super Mario World for Super Nintendo back in 1990.

While the name refers to a specific character, it can also refer to the general dinosaur species.

Yoshi changed the way Mario fans experienced the game up to that point, as he can use his tongue to eat enemies, lay eggs and gain special abilities, like breath fire or fly, if he eats certain colored Koopa Troopa shells.

He proved so popular that he even received his own spinoff games, starting with Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island in 1995.
