Beyoncé launches luxury whiskey called SirDavis: what does the name mean and how much does it cost?

As well as starring for Kamala Harris at the DNC, the singer-songwriter has a new venture, one that gives us more insight to her past.

Beyoncé has added another notch to her already impressive belt, but this time, it’s with a bottle of luxury whiskey. The countdown is almost over.

The 32-time Grammy winner, whose music introduced Kamala Harris as she accepted the presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention, has launched what she is calling, ‘SirDavis’. The name honours her great-grandfather Davis Hogue, a Prohibition-era moonshiner, who is said to have stashed liquor bottles in cedar trees for friends and family during a time when alcohol was forbidden. Drunk in love, indeed.

“When I discovered that my great-grandfather had been a moonshine man, it felt like my love for whiskey was fated,” Beyoncé said, emphasising the personal connection to this latest venture.

Crafted by whiskey expert Bill Lumsden, SirDavis is a blend of 51% rye and 49% malted barley, matured in a sherry cask to deliver notes of dark red fruits, clove, and cinnamon. The bottle itself, designed with Beyoncé's input, features a bronze horse logo – a nod to her Texan roots and the “cowboycore” aesthetic she’s embraced in her recent music. Cowboy Carter, the second of a planned trilogy of albums, was released in March. Early reviews, from those we trust, are postive.

SirDavis will hit shelves in September, priced at $89, making it a premium addition to the growing $5.1 billion US whiskey market. It will be available across the US and in select stores in London, Paris, and Tokyo.

This launch adds to Beyoncé's expanding empire, which recently saw the introduction of her fragrance Cé Noir and a line of haircare products, Cécred. With SirDavis, Beyoncé isn’t just toasting to her history and legacy – she’s inviting the world to join her. We’ll certainly be raising a glass.
