Beyoncé releases surprise ‘American Has a Problem’ remix featuring Kendrick Lamar
A newer version of the ‘Renaissance’ track arrives in the midst of Beyoncé's highly anticipated world tour.
Kendrick Lamar has joined forces with Beyoncé for a new remix of her ‘Renaissance’ track ‘American Has Problem’. The two have collaborated before on Lemonade’s ‘Freedom’ and The Lion King: The Gift’s ‘Nile’.
The new remix arrives just as Beyoncé begins her world tour for her latest album ‘Renaissance.’ She kicked off the tour in Sweden earlier this month and will be moving into US dates in July.
Lamar’s verse
The remix sticks to its original dance beat but quickly moves into Lamar’s verse just a few seconds in where he references the Beyhive and artificial intelligence.
Lamar’s lyrics include, “Hold up, wait a minute / Even AI gotta practice clonin’ Kendrick / The double entendre, the encore remnants / I bop like tin men, the opps need ten men.”
The remix comes just a few months after the album scored Bey four golden Grammys at the 2023 Grammy Awards, including the best dance/electronic music album award. The wins also made the performer the most decorated Grammy Award winner in history, with 29 total wins.
Possible live performance
Fans are hopeful that the track’s timing may lead to the duo performing it together on Beyoncé's current world tour. They last collaborated on the track ‘Freedom,’ from Beyoncé's 2016 album ‘Lemonade’.
The pair also performed the track at that year’s BET awards. The Renaissance World Tour marks Beyoncé's first solo tour since 2016′s Formation World Tour.
In the time between both albums, Beyoncé headlined Coachella in April 2018 and toured with her husband Jay-Z for their On the Run II Tour months later.
Bey initially announced her latest album on Instagram in June. The ‘Crazy in Love’ singer shared the album’s cover art along with a lengthy caption about the project.
Explaining her intention was to “create a safe place, a place without judgment,” she continued in the post’s caption how she wanted to foster “a place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration. I hope you find joy in this music. I hope it inspires you to release the wiggle. Ha! And to feel as unique, strong, and sexy as you are.”
