Brian Cox, who played Colonel William Stryker in the 2003 sequel, ‘X2: X-Men United’, has revealed what it was really like to work with director Bryan Singer.

The 20th Century Fox ‘X-Men’ director, who has previously been accused of sexual misconduct and inappropriate on-set behavior, has had a bad rap from the likes of Hallie Berry and Hugh Jackson — but Brian Cox has something different to say.

Singer’s first ‘X-Men’ film raked in $300 million at the global box office, which significantly upped the ante for making the first sequel: ‘X2′ became bigger and more extravagant than the original feature.

Though the director has received substantial heat for his conduct, Brian Cox recalls a different experience.

Cox expresses gratitude for Singer

In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Cox explained that Singer had dramatic ups and downs throughout the production of the film, including several impromptu script rewrites — but once he got it right, it was creative genius.

“I think he’s an extraordinary director — really, really gifted,” the actor said. “Certainly I will always be grateful to him because he had confidence in me and got me the role. I played a waiting game and it worked.”

Cox expanded on Singer’s creative process.

“One of his great things was that when he came to a new set, he would have to rethink it,” Cox said.

“He’d have a thought, and then have to rethink. So that was always a difficult transition for him. But once he cracked it, he cracked it very quickly and was able to get on with it.”

Singer’s on-set behavior

While the actor attributed Singer’s bad behavior to being “under a lot of strain” on set, Halle Berry commented otherwise in an interview with Variety in 2020.

Allegedly Singer and Berry, cast as Storm in the ‘X-Men’ movies, had conflict on set, in which the actress confessed she screamed at him on occasion.

“Bryan’s not the easiest dude to work with, Berry reported. “I mean, everybody’s heard the stories — I don’t have to repeat them — and heard of his challenges, and what he struggles with... I got into a few fights with him, said a few cuss words out of sheer frustration.”

“But at the same time, I have a lot of compassion for people who are struggling with whatever they’re struggling with, and Bryan struggles,” the actress concluded.

Cox on ‘Caddyshack’

Brian Cox is set to make an appearance in a Super Bowl ad for Michelob Ultra, which will portray the famous movie ‘Caddyshack.’

The commercial will be set in the legendary Bushwood Country Club and features Serena Williams, Jimmy Butler, Alex Morgan, Tony Romo, Nneka Ogwumike, and Canelo Alvarez.
