Buckingham Palace expecting Harry and Meghan at King Charles III’s coronation
The palace is reportedly making preparations for the Sussex’s attendance at the ceremony
Whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will attend King Charles III’s coronation in May has been up in the air for months. But it’s now been reported that Buckingham Palace staff are preparing for the arrival of the Sussexes.
While neither Harry nor Meghan have officially said “yes” to the invitation, the palace is preparing either way, taking the couple into consideration for program planning and seating arrangements.
A source confirms they are being considered in all aspects of planning
“Harry and Meghan are being factored into all of the planning.... the cars, the seating plans, dining arrangements, everything,” an unnamed source told the Daily Mail.
“No one knows for certain whether this means they have definitely accepted - it could, of course, be just in case they do - but it’s clearly not a ‘no’.
“The staff are certainly working on the expectation they are coming. These kind of arrangements have to be made well in advance,” the source added.
A second source close to the Sussexes has said: “The indication is that they are, although there is a lot that needs to be worked through first.”
And while formal invitations are not being mailed until April, a spokesperson for the couple confirms that they have received a formal email invitation.
“I can confirm the Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation,” the source said but added:
“An immediate decision on whether the Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time.”
The King’s coronation coincides with his grandson’s birthday
The couple has most recently begun to refer to their children by their royal titles, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. This comes after the official website of the royal family updated the section that lists the line of succession to include the titles with the children’s names, who were previously referred to as Master Archie and Miss Lilibet.
The Sussexes’ son, Archie, will be turning four on the day of his grandfather’s coronation on Saturday, May 6. The King has only met his grandson a handful of times. Meanwhile, he has only met Lilibet once, during Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee last year.
