‘Carrie’ and ‘Twin Peaks’ actress Piper Laurie, dies at 91
The actress died in the early hours of Saturday in Los Angeles, as confirmed by her manager, Marion Rosenberg.
The world of cinema is in mourning. Legendary actress Piper Laurie passed away at the age of 91 in the early hours of Saturday morning in the city of Los Angeles. The sad news was confirmed by her manager, Marion Rosenberg, in declarations to CNN. “A beautiful human being and one of the great talents of our time,” Rosenberg said.
Laurie is considered one of the last legendary divas of the golden age of Hollywood, and it is no wonder, since she started in the world aged just 17 years old. Universal Studios gave her her first big break and her first contract. A key moment, because it was at that point that she adopted her stage name Piper Laurie, (her real name was Rosetta Jacobs).
An actress who has lived much of her life around acting, spending more than 60 years between filming. And he started in style, with the film ‘Louisa’ (1950), where he coincided with Ronald Reagan, with whom he enjoyed a close friendship.
Three Oscar nominations
And from there she went on to act with Tony Curtis, a perfect dance partner with whom he coincided in numerous projects. Her most well known works include parts in, ’The Hustler’ and ‘Carrie’, for which she was nominated for an Oscar as well as her protrayal as Mrs Norman in ‘Children of a Lesser God’ which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress .
But, if we talk about awards that she did win, we must highlight her award at the Emmys, and also the Golden Globe she won for Best Supporting Actress in 1991 for her role as photographer Catherine Martell in series 3 of David Lynch’s ‘Twin Peaks’.
Piper Laurie shone on the silver screen, but she also did so on the small screen and on stage, participating in various television programs and plays, which led her to enjoy her passion for acting up until ill health prevented her from working. In 2010, she played Rainn Wilson’s mother in Spencer Susser’s feature debut, ‘Hesher’, and more recently, in 2018, she was handed a supporting role in Yann Demange’s crime drama, ‘White Boy Rick’.
