Cat Janice, the singer with cancer who went viral when she dedicated her last song to her son, dies

The American singer-songwriter entered the consciousness of the wider public in January because of her ‘Dance You Outta My Head” track.

American singer-songwriter Cat Janice has died of cancer at the age of 31, weeks after she went on viral on social media for dedicating her last song to her young son.

Dance You Outta My head proceeds to go to son Loren

Although she began her musical career when was she 20 years old, Janice only entered the consciousness of the wider public in January. By that stage, she was in palliative care and decided to dedicate one last song - Dance You Outta My Head - to seven-year-old Loren. All the proceeds from the song will go to her son.

On Wednesday, Janice’s brother announced her death on Instagram:

“This morning, from her childhood home and surrounded by her loving family, Catherine peacefully entered the light and love of her heavenly creator.

“We are eternally grateful for the outpouring of love that Catherine and our family have received over the past few months. Cat saw her music reach places she never expected and rests in peace knowing that she will continue to provide for her son through her music. This would not have been possible without you,” the text reads.

The message states Janice’s brother “will manage all operations surrounding Cat’s music, merchandise, and public relations,” and that “per Cat’s request, there is some more art that she wants to share too,” which will come “in due time.”

Cat Janice’s last acts after cancer returns

Janice was first diagnosed with cancer in 2022 but it initially appeared as if she had beaten the illness, with doctors giving her the all-clear and declaring her cancer-free a few months later.

Unfortunately, barely a year passed before the disease returned and in January this year she was informed her cancer was terminal. Rather than feel sorry for herself, however, Janice opted to live life to the fullest in the little time she had left, focusing first and foremost on her family.

She married her boyfriend and wrote Dance You Outta My Head, an upbeat dance track, for her son. She had hoped to perform it live at a concert somewhere, which she sadly now won’t have the chance to do.

However, it will forever stay in the heads of her loved ones, who meant the world to her. “I‘m just thankful to squeeze my boy more over this adorable little song we came up with in the car on a summer day. And I miss you all so much,” Janice said on Instagram after Dance You Outta My Head went viral.
