Celebrities share messages of empowerment on International Women’s Day
On International Women’s Day, celebrities took to social media to celebrate the women in their lives.
March 8 is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate the achievements of women around the world, while also bringing awareness to the challenges that many women still face. Celebrities took to social media to honor women from all walks of life, with messages of empowerment.
International Women’s Day began in the early 20th century and was originally associated with socialist and communist countries, which were the first ones to observe the day. Since then, it has grown to be celebrated around the world.
David Beckham
David Beckham made an Instagram post dedicated to his wife, Victoria Beckham, daughter Harper Seven, his mother Sandra, sisters Joanne and Lynne, and mother-in-law Jackie Adams.
“On this International women’s day I want to celebrate the amazing women in my life who inspire me with their work ethic, loyalty, kindness and love for their families…” he wrote.
Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, spoke out on the obstacles that many girls and women face in their lives that keep them from achieving their dreams. In the post, she shares how makeup company Max Factor will be partnering with Unicef to support the SKILLS4GIRLS programme to help girls grow skills in STEM and social entrepreneurship.
“What would you like to be when you grow up… it’s a simple innocent question and one that has many answers, each filled with aspiration and hope. But sadly, it doesn’t apply to every young girl. Today, 1 in 4 girls aged 15-19 are not in education & training centres or employed… their aspirations are a distant dream,” the actress wrote.
