Coachella weekend two curfew fines slashed after expensive opening weekend

After a hefty fine last weekend, Coachella organizers have learned a thing or two about managing time.

The folks behind Coachella have figured out how to work around those late-night noise rules because the fines they paid for working late on weekend two are about half what they were last week.

An Indio city official told TMZ that Goldenvoice was fined $51,000 for curfew violations during weekend two. That may sound like a lot, but it pales in comparison to the $117,000 they were fined last weekend.

Last week they spent money on long final performances that lasted until the early morning hours.

Here’s the breakdown: the outlet was told that Friday night’s festivities ended two minutes past curfew, which resulted in a $20,000 fine. Saturday, which also had a 1 a.m. curfew, didn’t go over the curfew.

However, on Sunday, the curfew started a little earlier at 12:00 a.m., with the final act going over by 16 minutes, costing Goldenvoice $31,000.

The festival organiser’s contract with the city government calls for a daily fine of $20,000 for the first five minutes after curfew, with an additional $1,000 for each minute after that.

While $51,000 is nothing to joke about, the fact they were able to reduce the fines significantly compared to weekend one ($66,000 in savings) is a win for Goldenvoice.

The lineup changed a bit for the second weekend. Frank Ocean had to bow out after suffering an injury, with Blink-182 taking the main stage at 9:20 p.m. in his place. They were followed by Skrillex and other EDM DJs, who filled in later at 10:25 p.m..

Last weekend’s mishaps

Last Friday and Saturday’s closing acts, Bad Bunny and Calvin Harris, respectively, went over the curfew time of 1:00 a.m. PST by half an hour. Ocean went over the Sunday curfew time of 12:00 a.m. PST, ending at roughly 12:25 a.m.

It seems all the performers involved had an idea about the curfew but that didn’t stop them from going over. Some, like Ocean, showed up an hour late just to cut the set short due to this rule.
