Evan Ellingson, best known for his roles in CSI Miami and Bones, has died at the age of 35. The California-born actor, who hadn’t appeared on screen for 10 years, was found dead at home on Sunday night. The cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Cameron Diaz’s son in My Sister’s Keeper

Ellingson had been critically acclaimed since after beginning his acting career at the age of only 13. His roles in the two aforementioned series, as well as appearances in movies such as Letters from Iwo Jima and My Sister’s Keeper, in which he starred alongside Cameron Diaz, made him a recognisable figure on American screens.

Michael Ellingson, Evan’s father, told TMZ that his son’s body had been found at a sober living house. The actor had struggled with drug addiction in the past but had received help and had been “doing better of late”.

Ellingson’s early breakthrough on General Hospital

One of his earliest roles as a teenager came via a guest appearance on ABC soap opera General Hospital, while he subsequently featured in a variety of other shows including Titus, That Was Then and Mad TV.

Ellingson also became the face of skateboarding apparel brand Vans, further boosting his popularity. “My childhood was great. I was busy doing the things I liked. I soon found my passion for acting,” he once said in an interview.

Brother’s death a turning point

However, the death of his brother from a drug overdose marked a turning point in his life. At the time, Ellingson had become obsessed with making money with “worrying who it affected.” In a 2022 interview, he revealed he regretted his earlier attitude: ”I would have given everything I had to be able to get my brother back.”
