Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson approached by political parties to run for United States president
A poll carried out in 2021 revealed the actor would have the backing of a significant number of participants were he to campaign.
Wresting superstar, A-list actor, president of the United States? Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has revealed that his career could have taken an interesting turn if several political parties had got their way.
In October last year, the “Juamanji” star gave his thoughts on a poll that revealed he would have the backing of a significant percentage of the American people if he chose to run for president.
Presidency poll shows support for ‘The Rock’
According to the poll, carried out by Piplsay in 2021, 46% of 30,000 participants claimed they would support the 51-year-old’s hypothetical campaign. Johnson initially claimed on Instagram that “if it ever happens, it would be an honour to serve the people,” but later backed down, telling CBS Sunday Morning a move into the world of politics was “off the table”.
The actor described the results of the poll as a “humbling honour” but insisted his priority was to be a father to his three daughters: “Always humbling and I’m so grateful to see polls and be asked about running for President. But I want to raise my daughters, be there as their father and never be absent,” he wrote on Twitter, now X.
A year later, ‘The Rock’ has appeared on Trevor Noah’s What Now? podcast and revealed that several political parties approached him to ask if he wanted to run for president.
“One party after the after” approached Johnson after poll
“That was an interesting poll that happened and I was really moved by that. I was really blown away and really honoured. I’ll share this little bit with you: towards the end of 2022, I got a visit from parties asking me if I was going to run, and if I could run.” Johnson did not, however, disclose which parties had attempted to convince him.
“It was a big deal, and it came out of the blue,” he continued. “It was one after the other, and they brought up that poll, and they also brought up their own deep-dive research that would prove that should I ever go down that road [I’d be a real contender]. It was all very surreal because that’s never been my goal. My goal has never been to be in politics. Actually, there’s a lot about politics that I hate.”
