Everything we know about ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’
From the cast, to the release date and trailer, here’s everything we know about ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ so far.
Following the success of ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ in 2018, the web slinger will return for another animated adventure this summer in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’.
The 2018 film was met with widespread acclaim, grossing over $384 million worldwide and winning Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards. That made it the first non-Disney/Pixar film to win the award since ‘Rango’ in 2011.
Thanks to the success of the film, two sequels are planned, with ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ next on the dock.
When will ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ be released?
Originally scheduled for release on April 8, 2022, ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ was later moved to October 7, 2022 due to fears it would underperform at the box office following the pandemic.
That date was later pushed back again, and the film is now scheduled to be released on June 2, 2023.
What is the plot of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’?
“Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered,” reads the official plot synopsis for the film.
The previous film ended with Miles and the Spider-People foiling the plans of Wilson Fisk, The Kingpin.
Although the heroes returned to their respective dimensions, Spider-Woman (Gwen Stacy) found a way to contact him.
However, the post-credits scene with Spider-Man 2099, who is tasked with defending the integrity of the Multiverse as the leader of the Spider-Society, suggests he may find himself at odds with Miles and Gwen when they battle the Spot.
Who is starring in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’?
Much of the same cast from the first film is returning for the sequel.
Shameik Moore returns as Miles Morales, while Hailee Steinfeld will once again voice Gwen Stacy.
Jake Johnson returns as mentor Peter B. Parker, Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir, Brian Tyree Henry as Miles’ father Jefferson Davis, and Luna Lauren Velez as Miles’ mother Rio Morales.
Oscar Isaac will also return after his brief end credits scene as Miguel O’Hara, Spider-Man 2099.
They’ll be joined by several new faces in Issa Rae and Daniel Kaluuya, who will play Spider-Woman and Spider-Punk respectively. Karan Soni will play Spider-Man India.
As for the villains, Jason Schwartzman will play the Spot, while Jorma Taccone will play the Vulture.
Trailer for ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’
The trailer, as you would expect, features an infinite number of Spider-People from the Spider-Verse.
It also finds time to give a nod to the 2021 film ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, which stars Tom Holland and Zendaya.
What about the third film in the trilogy?
‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ previously had a ‘Part One’ in the title. Although that’s been removed, the film will still be the first half of a two-part story.
‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’, the third film in the trilogy, is scheduled to be released on March 29, 2024.
