Foo Fighters name new drummer in livestream skit

Foo Fighters have announced Josh Freese as their new drummer.

The band’s former drummer, Taylor Hawkins, tragically died on March 25, 2022.

On a Sunday evening live stream over a year after their loss, Foo Fighters announced Josh Freece will be filling the shoes of the late drummer.

The May 21 live stream event hosted by Live Nation was to preview the band’s 11th studio album, ‘But Here We Are’, and while streaming, studio drummer Josh Freese appeared as their new drummer.

The naming of the drummer was introduced in the form of a skit.

With Foo Fighters in the studio, three different famous drummers from other bands came a knocking.

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith knocks and complains that there is a white Mercedes outside blocking his car.

Then Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee shows up, and he offers the band a special delivery.

“I got the P.F. Chang’s!” Lee exclaims, to which Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl responds, “Thanks, you’re the best. Put it in the kitchen for us, would ya?”

Then Tool drummer Danny Carey arrives, holding two dog leashes in his hand.

“I groomed your poodles for you,” the drummer announces.

Real drummer revealed

Finally, an off-camera voice says, “Um…excuse me!” and the camera pans to Freese, who sits at the drums. “Guys, can we just, like, I dunno, play a song, or two, something?”

Then the rock band began playing tunes from their new album.

Foo Fighters will head on tour on May 25, with their 11th studio album scheduled for release on June 2.

Freese has performed twice previously with Foo Fighters, at the band’s tribute shows for Hawkins in LA and London in September 2022.

The musician has also performed with Devo, Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, and singer Sting.
