The Netflix series about David Beckham is said to be as faithful as possible to reality. This is something that has been confirmed by someone who was on the inside, former marine Craig Ainsworth, who, after fighting in Afghanistan, moved to the private security sector and has protected a number of celebrities, including the Beckham family.

More on Beckham:

Honesty behind Beckhams’ closed doors

In statements given to The Mirror, the former military man, who was protecting the English footballer from 2013 to 2015, while he lived in London, has said that the insightful four-part Beckham faithfully captures what life was like in the home, while he was part of it. He specifically pulled out the honesty showed when Victoria says that they are working class and David reminds her that she should admit to being driven to school in a Rolls-Royce. Which she eventually accepts.

However, Ainsworth also confesses that it is ‘Posh’ who is really the one who rules the home.

“Who’s in charge? I feel most women are in charge and just let us men feel like we’re in charge half the time,” he said. “David and Victoria are both highly professional and have had so much security we’re like background noise to them, we’re part of the furniture.”

David and Victoria dealing with fame

Ainsworth also tells how the Beckhams handle fame and what his relationship with them was like.

David was charming. Victoria kept to herself, she would be with the kids or working. With the spotlight they have been under, their kids are well-behaved.

“To have that level of fame and maintain their family unit, they must be doing something right.” adds the former bodyguard who also worked with the likes of Amber Heard, Johnny Depp, Jennifer Lawrence and Arnold Schwarzenegger. And he had a comparison to make with the former governor of California.

“David’s the English golden boy. I don’t know any celeb more loved by the public,” Ainsworth says. “Of the stars I’ve looked after, the only one comparable would be Arnie.”
