Viral Sensations

From viral sensation to disappearing after scam crypto accusations: what we know about “hawk tuah” girl?

During a street interview in the summer of 2024, Haliey Welch used the catchphrase ‘hawk tuah’ and became an overnight internet sensation.

The cunning way Hawk Tuah girl makes money

Haliey Welch’s world turned upside down one evening in June 2024 when she bumped into content creators Tim & Dee TV and her answer to a random sexually related question went viral.

Welch immediately became known as the ‘hawk tuah’ girl and packed in her job at a spring factory and focused on capitalizing on her new-found and overnight fame.

The follower count on her Instagram account rocketed (currently 2.6 million) and she availed of her new found fame to help boost her bank account.

She commanded $30,000 for appearing at Daer Dayclub at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida and after trademarking ‘hawk tuah’, generated nearly $300,000 in the first month on merchandise sales with everyone anxious to get on board with viral buzzword of the summer.

Crypto launch

Late last year, Welch launched a crypto meme coin called $Hawk and began advertising it on social media as fans began to invest in the coin which almost immediately saw its monetary value drop. Furious fans called the launch a ‘scam’ and a lawsuit ensued with Welch eventually claiming that she was working with the legal team representing those who invested in the $Hawk coin to help them “uncover the truth.

That December 20 post was the last official comment from Welch across all her social media platforms. Over a month later and there is no sign of the social media star with the ‘hawk tuah’ fad certainly showing signs of quickly losing momentum.
