Update:

Today brings one of those heartbreaking stories that’s never easy to share: Michael Campbell, known professionally as Michael Patrick, has died at just 35 years old. He passed away on Wednesday, April 8, after battling ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a degenerative neuromuscular disease he had been diagnosed with in February 2023.

The news was confirmed by his wife, Naomi Sheehan, who posted an emotional farewell on Instagram, saying he “passed away peacefully at Northern Ireland Hospice, surrounded by family and friends.”

In her tribute, she described him with deep affection:

Mick was an inspiration to everyone who was privileged enough to come into contact with him, not just in the past few years during his illness but in every day of his life. He lived a life as full as any human can live. Joy, abundance of spirit, infectious laughter. A titan of a ginger haired man. .”

She also shared a quote from Irish writer Brendan Behan that Patrick loved: “The most important things to do in the world are to get something to eat, something to drink and somebody to love you.”

A career that reached From Cambridge to ‘Game of Thrones’

Michael Patrick studied at the University of Cambridge and built a career across theater and television. Many fans remember him for his appearance in Game of Thrones, one of the most acclaimed series of all time, where he played a Wildling troublemaker in Season 6, Episode 7 (“The Broken Man”).

Patrick leaves behind a legacy of talent, humor, and resilience — and a community of colleagues, friends, and fans who will remember him with admiration.

The funeral will take place on Monday, April 13th, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Carryduff, Co Down.
