Grammy Awards 2025

Grammy Awards take aim at Donald Trump: Noah, Gaga, Shakira, Keys...

During the 67th Grammys, several artists took jabs and made some sarcastic comments about the Trump administration.

The night of February 2, the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, was dressed in its finest to host the 67th Grammy Awards. While the ceremony is meant to celebrate the best in the music industry, this year it took on a distinctly political tone. Throughout the evening, several stars used the stage to make sarcastic remarks and pointed criticisms of Donald Trump’s administration, which began on January 20.

Trevor Noah’s opening monologue

During his opening monologue, host Trevor Noah took several jabs at President Trump. Explaining how Grammy winners are determined, Noah joked that the voting included “20 million illegal immigrants” and even suggested he might face deportation himself.

“There have been some changes in Washington. So I’m going to enjoy tonight because this might be the last time I host anything in this country,” said the comedian, who was leading the ceremony for the fifth consecutive year.

Noah also referenced Beyoncé’s new tour and used the moment to make a point about tariffs.

“I’ll say it, Beyoncé. There are tariffs. We can’t afford a new tour, right? Maple syrup is about to cost 50 bucks,” he quipped.

Alicia Keys defends DEI programs

After winning the Global Impact Award, Alicia Keys used her acceptance speech to emphasize the importance of platforms that elevate diverse voices—particularly Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs.

“This is not the time to silence the diversity of voices,” said Keys. “We’ve seen on this stage talented, hardworking people from different backgrounds and with different perspectives, and that changes everything. DEI is not a threat—it’s a gift,” the artist declared, alluding to an executive order Trump signed to eliminate such programs.

Lady Gaga takes aim at Trump’s ‘anti-trans’ policies

On his first day in office, Trump signed orders stating that the U.S. would only officially recognize two genders: male and female. In response, Lady Gaga used her acceptance speech—standing alongside Bruno Mars—to deliver a powerful message.

“Trans people are not invisible. Trans people deserve love. The queer community deserves to be uplifted. Music is love.”

Shakira dedicates her award to immigrants

After winning the Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album, Shakira appeared to address Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoricby dedicating her award to the community, which in recent weeks has faced increased raids.

“I want to dedicate this award to all my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country. You are loved, you are worthy, and I will always fight for you,” she said.
