Harrison Ford’s standing ovation lasted five minutes after farewell speech
The 80-year-old actor said his goodbye to the ‘Indiana Jones’ franchise at the Cannes Film Festival.
Hollywood actor Harrison Ford has said farewell to his epic franchise, ‘Indiana Jones’, following the premier of its fifth installment. Ford received a standing ovation that lasted a full five minutes as he said his goodbyes.
Ford addressed the audience at the world premiere of ‘Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny’ at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in France.
A montage of Ford’s career
The 80-year-old actor displayed raw emotion as he wept before the crowd prior to the screening. As per his retirement from the franchise, the organization put together a montage of Ford’s best work from his roles in ‘Star Wars’, ‘Indiana Jones’, and ‘The Fugitive’.
The actor then received a surprise Palme d’Or — the highest honor at the Cannes Film Festival.
Finally, after the movie ended and the final credits began, the audience stood and applauded for more than five full minutes.
Ford’s moving speech
After the clip, the cast and director of ‘Dial of Destiny’, James Mangold, were announced, and as Ford grew more emotional and made his way to the stage, the crowd leapt to their feet and applauded the actor for several minutes.
“I’m very moved by this,” Ford said in his speech, as per Variety. “They say when you’re about to die, you see your life flash before your eyes, and I just saw my life flash before my eyes. A great part of my life, but not all of my life.”
“My life has been enabled by my lovely wife, who has supported my passion and my dreams, and I’m grateful,” he continued, looking at his wife and then the rest of the crowd.
“I love you [all], too. But I’ve got a movie you ought to see. It’s right behind me,’ he said, in an effort to begin the screening of the fifth and final Indiana Jones film, ‘So let me get out of the way, and thank you again for this great honor.”
